Minnesota K-3 Visual Art Standards Used in This Lesson:

  • 1. Identify the elements of visual art including Color, line, shape, Form, Value, texture and space.

  • 2. Identify the tools, materials and techniques from a variety of two- and three-dimensional media such as drawing, printmaking, ceramics or sculpture.

    • An exercise in Pattern and repetition and the beginnings of Quilling.

    The teacher demonstrates how to curl paper around a pencil. Straight curls are made and diagonal curls are made of white and pink paper. Students will make a curl and glue it to the 1.5X6 inch paper strip "flag pole".

    Pattern is emphasized in how they arrange the white and pink paper strips.
