Quilled City

"Tall next to a small so they don't fall"

Quilling: A type of ornamental craftwork involving the shaping of paper, fabric, or glass into delicate pleats or folds.

Quilling is explained in class while students are shown examples.

Images of large cities are used to show how closely skyscrapers can be built and city populations are discussed. The Minneapolis skyline has some interestingly shaped buildings as well.

Then the teacher demonstrates how to curl paper by pulling it across a scissors and by rolling it on a pencil or toothpick. The project is explained and demonstrated.

Students can pick up paper strips or cut their own, curl them and glue them onto their cardboard piece. Emphasis is placed on making a dense city full of Quilled skyscrapers.
