Live Sculpture Day

Visiting Artist, Gerard Kulzer
Butter Sculptor of Midwest Dairy's Princess Kay of the Milky Way

Everyone can appreciate the feel of clay in their hands. It's cool and soft and changes as you manipulate it. Anyone who puts pencil to paper, brush to canvas, or hand to clay can feel a sense of relaxation, healing, and accomplishment.

As a sculptor, Gerard Kulzer brings a passion to his clay work. As an educator he brings a passion about artwork to his students.

Participants in his workshops learn how sculptures are made through first-hand observation:
"I explain the process of making a bronze (or butter) sculpture and demonstrate my trade by sculpting a portrait of a beloved teacher, counselor, or celebrity in front of students during the school day."

Depending on the class format, students often work with clay as Mr. Kulzer demonstrates his work methods and the process of bronze sculpture. Clay can be therapeutic in the hands and lends to an open relaxed environment as students enjoy its pliability.

Mr. Kulzer encourages teachers to engage, during his time at their school, and become learners as well. They can then continue their students' experience well beyond the special artist visit day.
