3 cylinders

Students are shown how to weigh clay to get consistent sized lumps to throw on the wheel. Then a Demonstration of consistently thrown cylinder shapes is given.

Students are to practice making cylinder shapes over and over until they get 3 that are similar size and thickness.

If this project is done over the course of a few days, students should use paper templates or measurements to gage the size of their cylinders. (After a day of drying the cylinder will shrink so measurements will no longer be accurate.)

Evaluation:

3 points -- Accuracy (close to the same size and shape)
3 points -- 3 inches high minimum
2 points -- consistent thickness
2 points -- Nicely finished (trimmed or smoothed over)
