Face Painting

The teacher demonstrates how to draw and paint a face emphasizing blending skills to make parts bulge out (like cheeks) and recede (like eye sockets). Students follow along painting on their paper as the teacher paints on his.

After the demonstration the teacher illustrates how a background should be done first to avoid any "halo" effect from painting a background close, but not close enough, to the subject after the subject has been finished. See background example here.

Inspirational paintings by
Greg Manchess are shown. Special note is made of his use of brush strokes and colors that one wouldn't necessarily associate with facial features.
