Minnesota K-3 Visual Art Standards Used in This Lesson:

  • 1. Identify the elements of visual art including Color, line, shape, Form, Value, texture and space.

  • 2. Identify the tools, materials and techniques from a variety of two- and three-dimensional media such as drawing, printmaking, ceramics or sculpture.

  • 4. Create original two- and three- dimensional artworks to express ideas, experiences or stories.

  • 5. Share and describe a personal artwork and reflect on a presentation based on the feedback of others.

    • Third and Fourth Grade Students make posters in honor of Veteran's Day.

    Images about Veteran's Day are presented to the students. Mr. Kulzer talks about the 9-ft. tall statues he helped make for the Fort Hood Hospital in Texas and relates that to how we remember our war veterans on this special day.

    Patriotism is discussed and ideas about how to illustrate our patriotism are brainstormed.

    A "how to draw" session may also be done for students where they suggest ideas and the teacher shows students how to simply draw their ideas.

    Students are given paper and pencils, crayons, and markers for this assignment.
