Veteran's Day Starburst Posters

Third Grade Students make Starburst posters in honor of Veteran's Day.

Images about Veteran's Day are presented to the students. Mr. Kulzer talks about the 9-ft. tall statues he helped make for the Fort Hood Hospital in Texas and relates that to how we remember our war veterans on this special day.

Patriotism is discussed and ideas about how to illustrate our patriotism are brainstormed. The flag is a common reference and the evolution of the flag is shown in pictures.

From there students are given a red or blue piece of paper and a star to cut out. (Star print PDF here.) They cut out the star and glue it to the page a little off center.

Rulers are used to make lines radiating out from the stars after which the lines are cut away. The opposite colored paper (If they had blue they use red and vice versa.) is then glued to the back so it shows through the cut radiating lines.

Additional stars can be cut out and attached as well as other "flag-like" designs.
