Paper Tree Sculpture

Students are given a short lesson on how to make a three-dimensional tree from two-dimensional paper. The image blow explains the process.

After the tree is made students either cut or rip paper to make leaves. A summer tree will have various green colored leaves glued to the branches. For a fall tree students may decide to glue many leaves at the base as seen in the illustration. For a imaginary tree, students may decide to use purples and other crazy colors for leaves.

As we work through this lesson special note is made of the texture of bark and how the seasons affect the look of trees. Paper production and recycling is discussed as well.

We are making trees out of something that once WAS a tree!
