Paper Hyacinth Flowers

Students are introduced to Hyacinths in class through images of the flowers.

Instead of an all-encompassing demonstration, students are lead through the project step by step.

First, a green paper is rolled up the long way to form the stem. It is glued and held for the length of a song that is played in class. (This ensures that the glue has enough time to set and hold the paper.)

Next 4 pieces of 4X5 colored paper are handed out. The paper is folded in half the long way and slices cut into it along the folded edge. Students are instructed to have at least 10 cuts in their paper.

A line of glue is added to the unfolded end of the colored paper. Then it is rolled around the top of the stem and held for the duration of the next song.

This process is repeated for the next 3 pieces of colored paper. Each are added below, but still overlapping the first.

After all the parts are glued on the flowers "petals" are opened by crushing them down gently.
