Symmetrical Bugs

Bugs not Slugs

After students have had a chance to practice blending and shading with crayons and oil pastels, they move on to this project.

Students are shown a images of symmetrical bugs as inspiration.

Printouts of a dozen bugs are set out on tables for students to look at while drawing. (Or lots of printouts are available for students to choose from for their individual drawings.)

Students select a bug image and, using white crayon, draw the outline of it as accurately as they can on large black paper. Oil Pastels are used to color the bug afterwards.
