Goofy Gopher Holes

In this lesson, students use the shading skills they learned in our "Volume exercise" to turn ovals into holes. Each oval is shaded from light to dark so that it looks like a deep hole. Students may make their own composition or use a provided handout.

Next, students draw, color, and cut out little characters, on a separate sheet of paper, to fill the holes. Care must be taken to make sure each character fits the hole it sits in. A character sheet is available here for students who were absent.

When the characters are glued into the holes, students will tell a story about their characters in front of the class.
