Clay Turtles

Turtle images are shown in class with special note being made of the patterns on their shells. We discuss how turtles lay eggs and how little baby sea turtles need to be strong to survive.

The teacher shows students how to make a pinch pot, turn it upside down and add indentation patterns to make the turtle shell. Then the teacher shows easy ways to make and attach a head, tail, and feet to the rim of the upside down pinch pot.

The cool thing about this project is that when it's done mini jellybeans can be placed under the turtle so that when someone picks it up, they see the "turtle eggs" it laid.
