Minnesota K-3 Visual Art Standards Used in This Lesson:

  • Science: Snowflake geometry

    • Students are shown snowflakes in class, then the teacher demonstrates how to use a fat X and a straight up and down line to start their snowflake. Add some shapes like circles and triangles to the "arms" and they've got a snowflake.

    Next the teacher demonstrates how to use a white crayon to make a snowflake on white paper. A wash of watercolor is added, making the snowflake appear magically.
