Pumpkin Paint and Pastel

Students are given paint and scrap paper. The teacher demonstrates on his easel how to paint a pumpkin using white and orange paint while the students follow along on their paper.

Next students are given the good black paper and they are to make a pumpkin shape on it using the technique practiced before on the scrap paper. The teacher again demonstrates the process for each step. (Finished projects along with an example done in class by the teacher can be seen at the bottom of this page.)

Students then practice cleaning up. as the paint is left to dry.

The next session students are shown how to make a pumpkin texture and a background with oil pastels.

If this project is done near Halloween, faces are added to make the pumpkins into jack-o-lanterns.
