Outdoor Drawing

This lesson is done in all grades at Atwater Elementary

The key to drawing anything accurately lies in accurate observation. This lesson gives students the time to study a small object intensively while drawing it.

Students will go outside find something they're interested in drawing and study it for a while. They should take notice of the lines and shapes that make up the object as well as how the light plays across the surface. (Highlights and shadows.)

Using a firm surface like a drawing board, students will sit and draw the item they see as accurately as possible.

For the lower grades, students are shown drawings done by other students and professionals prior to going outside.
