Haunted House Perspective and Parallax

This lesson is done in all grades at Atwater Elementary

Students are shown how the teacher drew Frankenstein in his example and some other things like ghosts and bats. The moon is explained as something they need to make up themselves out of the extra scraps of paper.

A review of perspective and how things appear larger if they're closer to the viewer (and smaller if further away) is discussed and illustrated with the teacher's example.

The concept of Parallax is discussed as well. Parallax can be seen when looking at the tomb stones and how as you move, some of the stones are revealed, while others are hidden.

A handout is given with shapes on it. Students should color the windows and designs on the tomb stones first, then start cutting. They should cut out one part, glue it, then cut out the next part, glue it, etc. That way if we run out of time they don't have little pieces floating all over or getting lost.
